The owners of Paula, LLC are pleased to recommend Sherrod Building Company for the Excellence in Construction Award for its work on the Paula Building renovation. We undertook the challenge of redeveloping an obsolete building in an excellent location partly due to the secure knowledge that Sherrod would be an integral player on the team. They formulated a Design / Build plan that met the needs of the one tenant we had at the time while remaining flexible for the unleased portion of the space. Sherrod Building was responsible for maneuvering the project through the requisite governmental channels and were able to start construction within the time frame we were operating. They handled the difficult demolition and subsequent daily surprises that characterize a rehab project with skill and creativity and are enabling us to finish the project within the budgetary parameters that we had hoped. The former abandoned property will soon house clinical and medical office space as well as add aesthetically to a highly visible street corner of Birmingains south side. RE: Sherrod Building Company, Inc. Paula Building Renovation

Dear Sirs:
We are delighted to have this opportunity to provide a reference for Sherrod Building Company, Inc. and the Paula Building Renovation in consideration for a prestigious Excellence in Construction Award. This project began with an aging, decrepit, brick structure with an actively leaking roof and a sad, worn exterior. As the designers, we were fortunate to partner with Sherrod Building and their MEP Design/Build Team who assisted us throughout the design process in discovering the scope of work. Our Structural Engineers, Lane, Bishop,York, Delahay worked together with us and Shcrrod Building to evaluate a tricky demolition of an existing concrete automobile ramp and insertion of a new floor structure in this old building. Sherrod Building was particularly sensitive in this structural installation which required bringing large steel members through the seveny-year-old brick skin. We enjoyed evaluating several design schemes with the Owner and Contractor through the use of computer imaging. We were able very quickly to evaluate several options, and Sherrod Building Company was very helpful in providing budget and schedule implications for each scheme. The computer models helped us to present a clear picture of the work to the City of Birmingham Design Review Committee and Shcrrod Building was instrumental in shepherding the permit process to achieve the fast track schedule. By using virtual reality the team was also able to show the new addition as it relates to the existing building. This clear vision helped speed both the design and construction process. We feel this project is a prime choice for your prestigious award because of the very positive impact this renovation has made to this area of south side Birmingham. What was an abandoned eye sore is now a revenue generating architectural gem for our city. We strongly recommend consideration of this project on its far-reaching merits.
